You agree to read the rules before booking or contacting us to book your stay.
We are a green eco-friendly property. There is solar backup power in some places on site. Your room will have clean linens on a freshly made bed. We can make your bed daily if your door is left unlocked. Staff will not enter your room if your door is locked and you are not on site.
To be clean-water-conscious, we’ll wash linens after every seven (7) days in your reservation unless specially requested.
Fans in the room are operated by a switch that rotates from the off position to a level 5 intensity. You can adjust it to your liking.
We have a fully equipped vegan-friendly kitchen with a refrigerator and freezer; gas stove; ceramic plates and cups; glasses; cutting boards; silverware; cutlery; pots and pans; and general spices like salt and pepper. Please be tidy and clean up behind yourself in the kitchen and common areas so all guests can have equal enjoyment of the space.
In Ghana, bathrooms are different than in the US and other places in the world. Houses are designed with a separate switch to turn on the hot water in the bathroom. At the Sankofa Guest House, the hot water switch is located just outside the door to the right of the bathroom door beside the light switch. Flip on the orange switch to utilize the hot water in the shower.
There is ample linen, bathroom tissue, dish soap in the kitchen, spare light bulbs if one blows out, etc. on site. These items are accessible by the staff. If you should find yourself in need, let us know so we can assist.
For each reservation you will be given a reservation number which validates your booking.
To make same-day reservations, please contact the facility directly (see the “Contact us” page). Room reservation is from 3:00 PM to 11:00 AM (GMT/local time). The Sankofa Guest House is accessible 24 hours/day thanks to automatic payment system (make sure you have your credit card).
Check-in is available starting at 3:00 PM (15:00 Hours). Early check-in is not guaranteed and subject to availability.
Early luggage drop-off is is not guaranteed and subject to availability.
Check out is at 11:00 AM. Late-check out fees begin at 11:01 and must be paid before closing out your account. The fee for late check out is $50.00.
Storage fees apply to items/luggage left past check-out without prior approval. You automatically agree to pay the storage fee if you leave items storage without prior approval.
After booking, your reserved room(s) on the reserved date are reserved and removed from inventory. After booking, your reservation can be neither cancelled, modified, nor refunded. Same day bookings are not automatically confirmed and refundable if the Sankofa Guest House is unable to accommodate your reservation in time. In the event your payment is incomplete due to insufficient funds, or you attempt to cancel a paid reservation, you agree to pay all late fees, transaction fees, and recovery costs. In cases of verified emergencies refunds may be granted. In no case are processing fees refundable.
Rates on our website are in US dollars. We may modify our rates at any time. Rate changes and increases do not apply to confirmed paid in full reservations.
Our website may display special offers for which neither cancellation nor modification is possible.
The Transaction Process
The transaction process includes the following sequence of activities:
Online Payment, Alternate Payment Methods, & Cards for Incidentals
The whole total amount of complete stay will be charged at the time of booking. Payment online is made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express or American Express through a secure payment system either on our website or via our Merchant Account invoice processor. For credit card payments you will be asked your credit card number, its expiry date, and the three-digit code on the back of your card, the address linked to your card, and the name on your card. We do not receive or store your credit card information. For security reasons, we require all guests to process payments online. Any irregular, inefficient, fraudulent, or incomplete information or payment on the part of the client will result in an automatic cancellation of the reservation at the expense of the client. In cases of attempts to commit fraud, civil or criminal action may ensue. The booking confirmation is deemed the agreement between the Parties.
The Sankofa Guest House does not accept cash payments at any time for lodging reservations. A major credit card must be presented at check-in for damage claims and incidentals. Cards are pre-authorized at check-in. Pre-authorizations are released if there is a net-zero check-out or cards are charged in accordance with accumulated fees associated with your reservation above the pre-paid reservation amount. In the event you opt to present a debit card, note the pre-authorized amount may include a hold as per the onsite room schedule cost sheet.
Gate Access and Property Access
Common Areas Rentals
You may rent common areas for an additional fee. Renting common areas means other guests will be notified that the space is unavailable during that period. For guest convenience, we only allow common area rentals for up to 20% of any given week. There may be limited to no availability after the 20% threshold is reached. Common area activities may not interfere with Quiet Hours. Contact us to request a quote for your meeting or event rental.
Drugs, Smoking, and Open Flames
For health and safety reasons pets are not allowed on the premises. Certain service animals are permitted for an additional convenience fee. Please inquire before booking to ensure pet accommodations are available.
Damages and Claims
If there is a problem, the Guest is expected during his/her stay to bring directly to the attention of Management, give Management time to satisfactorily resolve the issue. Issues must be reported by phone or email or web chat and should come with photo or video or other documentation of the problem. You agree to report any problem in writing at the time of discovery and prior to checking out. You agree that any claims reported, post-check out are not the responsibility of the Sankofa Guest House. You agree to pay any reasonable fees as deemed by the Management of the Sankofa Guest House to replace or repair items broken through unnatural or misuse. You will not be responsible for items damaged through normal wear and tear as deemed by the Management of the Sankofa House. By agreeing to Stay at the Sankofa Guest house you agree to indemnify the owners, managers, staff, contracted service providers and all actors acting on behalf of the Sankofa Guest House from any and all liability from claims resulting from your stay; any claim must, to be taken into account, be made by registered mail within 5 days. In case of claim, the data kept in our information system is deemed good proof. You acknowledge and agree to accept the following fees if incurred: a) smoking: $150 for each day of the reservation b) late checkout: $28 if your checkout is unauthorized to be late c) lost keys: $40 to replace keys and locks as of lost keys. Furniture damage fees are as assessed.
We are a family-friendly property. All overnight visitors must be listed on the reservation. Automatic charges may apply to unlisted overnight visitors.
Should the Sankofa Guest House not be capable of honoring a booking for reasons beyond its control, it shall make its best efforts to accommodate you in a nearby lodging facility of equal or superior standard as deemed by the Management of the Sankofa Guest House. However, the Sankofa Guest House is not liable for these reasons beyond the amount of the original booking.
You agree that you are booking in goodwill and you will not attempt to damage the property because you are dissatisfied with a ruling by 3rd party booking services or the host in the event that you are in violation of any host rules.
Your credit card information will be securely stored with our payment processor and pre-authorized for charges related to your reservation. You agree to all charges related to your explicitly or tacitly requested services.
Liability and Warranty
The guest acknowledges he/she is aware of the risks linked to use of the internet. Sankofa Guest House shall make its best efforts to ensure with its suppliers that the site functions correctly but cannot guarantee that the site is exempt of any malfunction or anomaly. Sankofa Guest House may therefore not be held responsible for damages resulting from use or total/partial impossibility to use the site. In particular its liability may not be engaged in case of non-performance or misuse by a customer, a third Party of in case of force majeure.
By entering the property you indemnify and hold harmless the Sankofa Guest House, its owners, operators, staff, managers and any assignees from any claims or damages that should arise while you are on site.
The present Terms and Use are subject to Ghanaian law. The Parties however engage to make their best efforts to settle any litigation amicably.
